The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that all children have a check- up with an orthodontist by the age of seven and / or younger. At age seven the child has what is called a mixed dentition (baby teeth and permanent teeth). At this age the examination is very important because early intervention can avoid serious problems in the future and reduce the duration of treatment in permanent dentition. Early treatment can correct the problems of jaw relationships, tooth eruption, premature loss of baby teeth, eliminate bad habits (finger habits) and correct excessive protrusion of upper front teeth and overlap. The duration of treatment ranges from 12 to 24 months.

If your child exhibits any of these problems, you should consult with an orthodontist as soon as possible.
